The 12th Pan pearl River Delta (PPRD) Regional Cooperation & Development Forum and Economic & Trade Fair kicked off in Guangzhou on September 5th.
Titled “Greater Bay Area: Driving innovation, Collaboration and Opportunities”, this year’s forum was organized by Guangdong and Jiangxi Province.
Li Xi, Secretary of CPC Guangdong Committee, pointed out that great achievements having been made, now PPRD region has embraced a new development opportunity. Hence, PPRD region should seize the opportunities of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and reinforce the international cooperation. Also the region should focus on mechanism innovation and deepen the supply-side structural reform.
Li also emphasized that as a participant and impeller of PPRD regional cooperation, Guangdong will strengthen the cooperation with other provinces and SARs to promote infrastructure construction, stimulate market integration, build international innovation center and optimize the environment of living, working and traveling.
Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, said that sticking to the policy of “One Country, Two Systems”, Hong Kong will fully take advantages of its financial capital, advanced technologies, and transportation & logistics, and promote the development of advantageous industries in the Greater Bay Area and also in PPRD region. Moreover, Hong Kong will pick up its pace to establish an international innovation and sci-tech center and make contributions to the whole region.
Yi Lianhong, acting governor of Jiangxi Province, said that Jiangxi will accelerate the construction of transportation infrastructure construction and actively undertake industry transfer from coastal developed provinces.
Hu Zucai, Deputy Director of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), pointed out that the PPRD region plays a key role in the national plan on regional development. NDRC will continue to support PPRD regional cooperation.
Leong Vai Tac, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao, said Macao is committed to building itself as a world tourist city and a cooperation platform for China and Portuguese-speaking countries to expand international market.
The forum, which began in 2004, aims to stimulate the economy within PPRD Region, which includes Fujian Province, Jiangxi Province, Hunan Province, Guangdong Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hainan Province, Sichuan Province, Guizhou Province and Yunnan Province, as well as Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.
